- We have a single Sparc 4.1.2 and in order (we hoped) to avoid
- the NIS/DNS fiasco, is running both its own ypmaster
- and is a secondary nameserver for the local domain.
-
- We are having a regular problem with
- "NIS: server not responding for domain "%s"; still trying"
-
- which requires a re-boot to correct.
-
- It appears that the problem occurs when the authoritative nameserver
- for the DNS domain is unavailable, and we suspect failure of
- a zone xfer is the cause. (Only guessing here as that seems to be
- the cause, since once the yp goes west game over.)
-
- Is this a known problem. Don't see Sun patch the directly relates,
- but I remember there being a discussion about sun named failing
- when it was unable to return a query or some such.
-
- BTW, is there a way to determine the active ypmasters for a particular
- NIS domain? Emulate the broadcast that ypbind generates?
