  22. David Haight of Tektronix posts some very valid information.  The
  23. reason for the cost difference between the Phaser II SX and PXi (and
  24. the Phaser III RX and PXi) is that on the SX and RX printers, the
  25. PostScript and SGI Image rendering is being done in software on the
  26. host.  Only a bitmap is sent to the printer, and thus the printer can
  27. be much less expensive.

  29. As a side-effect, printing of complex PostScript and SGI Images can be
  30. MUCH faster, since SGI's CPUs are a lot faster than the AMD 29000's
  31. used in the PXi interpreters.
