- I am attempting to define a screen saver and custom root background
- which would only be active/displayed when no user is logged on
- (when pandora is running) overriding the default light blue
- background and blank screen saver.
-
- Since the file /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xlogin displays pandora, it seems
- to be the logical place to insert the screen saver and background
- commands. I have defined a screen saver using the "haven" command
- (the SGI logo). The root background is displayed using the
- "bgpaste" command. Having done this, I have encountered some
- problems.
-
- (1) Normally when the "haven" or "bgpaste" command is executed
- in multiuser mode, a shell prompt is returned immediately. If
- I defined the commands in the Xlogin file to ran in the foreground,
- the system locks up. I was forced to execute both commands in the
- background. Why?
-
- (2) Having made the changes to Xlogin, I logged off the system. The
- new background appears and the screen saver is active. BUT, when I
- attempt to log back on, the system hangs immediately after the
- pandora screen disappears. What is going on? Help Mr. Wizard!
-
- I have been unable to solve this problem because I lack a concise
- understanding of exactly what happens when a user logs into the system.
- Can someone summaries the exact sequence of commands that are executed
- during login. (Is xdm the problem?)
-
- Thanks
