- | I and the owner of the machine are geting very frustrated so any help would
- | be MOST sincerly appreciated.
- |
- | We have a 4D/80 which when we try to boot gives:
- |
- | "SC 0,1,0: cmd=0x28 unexpected info phase 46, state 49, resettng SCSI bus"
- |
- | Sometimes, but not often, after 40+ tries it will "catch" and boot. From
- | then on the machine seems normal.
- |
- | Some history. The machine is under maintenance and the local folks have
- | replaced literally everyting except the case, backplane and power supply.
- | Some of the cables have been replaced. This all started about the time I
- | put 4.0.1 on the machine. It has been upgraded from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4 and
- | yesterday 4.0.5. Our local CE has spend alot of time with the factory
- | trying to figure this out to no avail.
-
- Hmm. there was an IP4 SCSI bug in 4.0.[2-4] fixed in 4.0.5, but
- the symptoms were somewhat different. This one sounds to me like
- bad termination, or cabling on the SCSI bus. The bug wasn't in
- 4.0.1, I'm pretty sure. Check for more than one SCSI device having
- terminators, or no terminators on the last SCSI device.
-
- Just to be sure though, you could make sure that the new sash did
- in fact get installed in the volume header, by using
- cd /tmp
- dvhtool -v g sash sash
- odump -fv sash
- assuming you have the development tools. If it is really the 4.0.5
- sash, the date will be in June (or was it July; how time flies ;)
- of 1992.
