  11. We are currently using a IRIS power series, 210/vgx machine, with
  12. (info from 'hinv'):

  14.   1 25 MHZ IP9 Processor                                       
  15.   FPU: MIPS R2010A/R3010 VLSI Floating Point Chip Revision: 2.0
  16.   CPU: MIPS R2000A/R3000 Processor Chip Revision: 2.0

  18. I am writing a purchase justification to upgrade this environment
  19. to an IRIS Crimson, R4000, 50mhz CPU/FPU environment.
  20.                                                                     
  21. To items: (a) any words of wisdom in this upgrade process, and      
  22.           (b) does anyone have any performance results for software 
  23.               execution times both before, and after their upgrade. 
  24.                                                                     
  25. We do hydrologic modeling here, and my people are mostly interested in
  26. F77 and C code performance for fluid transport and pollution plume  
  27. modeling in saturated and unsaturated geologic formations (number
  28. crunching).   Any thoughts, concerns, comments or considerations 
  29. about this upgrade, and it's potential number crunch speed 
  30. improvement would be appreciated.  I am especially interested in
  31. hearing from those who have actually performed the upgrade, and 
  32. have before and after runtime values.    -- Thanks --
