- We are currently using a IRIS power series, 210/vgx machine, with
- (info from 'hinv'):
-
- 1 25 MHZ IP9 Processor
- FPU: MIPS R2010A/R3010 VLSI Floating Point Chip Revision: 2.0
- CPU: MIPS R2000A/R3000 Processor Chip Revision: 2.0
-
- I am writing a purchase justification to upgrade this environment
- to an IRIS Crimson, R4000, 50mhz CPU/FPU environment.
-
- To items: (a) any words of wisdom in this upgrade process, and
- (b) does anyone have any performance results for software
- execution times both before, and after their upgrade.
-
- We do hydrologic modeling here, and my people are mostly interested in
- F77 and C code performance for fluid transport and pollution plume
- modeling in saturated and unsaturated geologic formations (number
- crunching). Any thoughts, concerns, comments or considerations
- about this upgrade, and it's potential number crunch speed
- improvement would be appreciated. I am especially interested in
- hearing from those who have actually performed the upgrade, and
- have before and after runtime values. -- Thanks --
