- |We are running FrameMaker 3.1 on 3 Indigos XS24's under IRIX 4.0.5.
- |(Probably 4.0.5A but I could be wrong). We have a floating license
- |for 4 machines.
- |
- |Problem #1: The ability of each of the four machines to get a license
- | seems to vary from day-to-day for no apparent reason.
- | Even if you log into the machine that is the license server,
- | you may (or may NOT) have to try 3 or 4 times to get a
- | license. This problem is NOT due to the available licenses
- | being used up as far as I can tell. On other machines the
- | problem is even worse. For better or worse I didn't do
- | anything special about how could or couldn't get a
- | license.
- |
- |Problem #2: This is a very SEVERE problem, but I only encountered it
- | today for the first time so I don't know how common
- | it is. I was editing a document that was originally
- | prepared under MS Word for Windows, imported into FrameMaker 3.0
- | for Windows and then 'ftp'd' to an Indigo for final editing
- | under FrameMaker 3.1. Twice when I moved the mouse to the
- | upper left part of the FrameMaker window, in order to save
- | my work, the WHOLE SCREEN WENT BESERK! The entire screen
- | turned a light grey with various repeating patterns in
- | quasi horizontal strips! This happened twice in a row.
- |
- | The first time only FrameMaker crashed. The second time
- | the machine froze. I could rlogin into the frozen machine
- | from another Indigo but the login only got as far as announcing
- | the unread news before also freezing up. After rebooting the
- | machine I was able to save my work.
- |
- |Questions: Has anyone else using FrameMaker 3.1 experienced either of
- | these problems? Do I need to reinstall the software?
- | Are these problems at all related to the infamous lockd bug?
- | I would appreciate any input before I start a game of
- | telephone tag with the Hotline folks. Thanks.

- Yes, Problem #1 is chronic for us as well, and we have a
- call open to try and fix it. The call is over three weeks
- old. In our case, it may be due to the changes in the
- clock every time we reboot but we are still not sure. We have
- had 3 or 4 license resets.
-
- We have also had problems importing *some* frame 2.0 documents,
- but most have been ok. Circular objects have been the worst.
