  23. We have a lab of 15 NeXTstations, and they generally have worked pretty
  24. well.  I've just been asked to assume sysadmin duties for these machines
  25. (they are served by a NeXTcube with an attached 1.4GB hard drive).  My
  26. predecessor is on vacation, and this problem has occurred:

  28. One of the NeXTstations for the last few days has refused to boot,
  29. stopping with the following message(s):

  31. watnxt03 syslog: loginwindow: could not find WindowServer port!
  32.  
  33. A cursory comparison of the dead NeXT and another one that works (I
  34. booted both in standalone mode and looked around their file systems)
  35. didn't show any obvious problems.  Can someone out there give me a clue of
  36. where to look?  Our hardware folks have checked the machine and say it's
  37. fine.
