  12.     I'm in the process of installing a NeXTstation and one of the
  13. first things I need to do is connect it to the university's Ethernet.
  14.  
  15.     An Ethernet line has been installed at the location of the
  16. machine but I suspect it's not properly wired. (I'm in the process of
  17. finding a laptop with an Ethernet adapter to check it.)

  19.     Part of the reason I think the line is NFG is that - according
  20. to the Network and System Administration manual (pg. 134), I should...

  22.     1. Press the Power key to start up the computer you want to
  23.     add. If it's already physically connected to the network, a
  24.     window appears with the message: "No response from network
  25.     configuration server. Type 'c' to start up computer without a
  26.     network connection."

  28.     I haven't seen this message.

  30.     From the above, I gather that the NeXT "senses" whether it is
  31. physically connected to the net and, if it is but is not locally
  32. configured, it produces this message.

  34.     Is this sufficient information to conclude that the line is
  35. not active?
