- A must is The RenderMan Companion (A Programmer's Guide to Realistic
- Computer Graphics) by Steve Upstill. Published by Addison-Wesley. ISBN
- 0-201-50868-0
-
- I also recommend the RenderMan Language Specification which is available
- for about $20 directly from Pixar. (You can call Pixar and ask for
- RenderMan sales at (510) 236-4000) It defines the RIB file format (which
- the companion does not) and occationally has insights into other details
- of RenderMan.
-
- Both of these are slightly out of date with respect to RenderMan on the
- NeXT. Pixar, and others, are defining a spec for RenderMan 4.0. The NeXT
- implementation seems to be a preliminary version of the RenderMan 4.0
- spec. I don't know where you can get details on the new additions, I
- hope that the 3.0 final documentation includes them.
