  12. Having just had a run-in with my bank, I'm turning to the only
  13. source of information I apparently have left.  Everyone else has
  14. had plenty of advice, but none of it's really all that great (no
  15. slight intended, guys!).

  17. My problem is that my bank wants $35 to turn a check drawn on a
  18. German bank into dollars in my account.  This is _not_ including
  19. changing the money, if that's needed.  Since NeXT is such a world-wide
  20. machine, I'm most likely not alone in this problem.  But, I've
  21. never seen any postings about it.

  23. What do other people do to solve this problem?  Do people just
  24. require checks drawn on US banks?  [That, of course, just moves
  25. the onus onto the sender instead of the receiver.]  How do things
  26. work with dealers?  For instance, can a German dealer process funds
  27. from France reasonably, or does one have to have dealers in every
  28. blasted country?  Are there any options on-the-cheap?  [The problem
  29. is obviously entirely different depending on whether your program
  30. costs $500 or $50!]  Would it be worthwhile to have an account on
  31. a Swiss bank and have people do direct deposit?

  33. [Forgive me if you see this as an overly commercial posting.  I'm
  34. pretty desperate.  And, hopefully this will help other people out
  35. with the problem, which should help the market as a whole ...
  36. besides, if you think I'm using this to help me in my selfish
  37. money-grubbing, you can feel free to stop by sometime and look at
  38. the balance in my bank account.  I'm _obviously_ not very good at
  39. grubbing money ...]
