- I have cooked my internal hard disk on a NeXT Station Color
- (25mhz - ver 2.1) in a very stupid way and have damaged or
- deleted (at least) the "sdmach" link in the root directory.
-
- Of course, the machine won't boot, and unfortunately, my floppy
- drive is also dysfunctional.
-
- Isn't there a copy of "sdmach" or "mach" in another directory that
- I could use to boot my machine into single user mode off the hard disk
- by entering a command such as the following from the ROM monitor:
-
- "bsd()/correct_path_to_copy_of/sdmach [or mach] -s"?
-
- If so, could someone please, please send me (and/or post) the correct
- command and full path and any other tips for booting off the hard disk
- under these very unfortunate circumstances?
-
- I asked this question before I went on vacation two or three weeks ago,
- but didn't get any replies. If you know, or have any ideas, about this,
- have a heart.
-
- I guess I can always schlepp the machine down to the morons at the NeXT
- dealer here in Paris and boot from one of their machines and do a
- Builddisk, can't I? Those guys, although perfectly nice, know less about
- this than I do, if that's possible. If I do have to resort to booting
- over their network, can anyone tell me the sequence of commands that I
- would execute to try to recover my hard disk?
