-
- There's an excellent application available from the public archives
- (sonata.cc.purdue.edu for one) called MailMan which will:
- - play a sound upon mail reception
- - keep track of two mailboxes, and give a visual indicator that
- you've received mail
-
- It's free, and I find it extremely useful.

- >2. What would a crontab line be to play a snd file at a certain time?
-
- Check the man page for cron for the format of crontab lines. The
- program you'd want to have it execute is /usr/bin/sndplay.

-
- Asking the internet is a good source. Other people at your site who
- deal with the same machines is another one. Just plain reading news
- will often turn up lots of information. Beyond that, you can buy
- various books depending on what you're interested in - there are some
- good ones out there.
