- This is very sad if Apple does not live up to their promise to
- integrate MODE32 into the system software. Having it as a temporary
- stand-alone hack increases the probability (with complete certainty
- over time) that it will become incompatible with future system versions.
-
- Perhaps MODE32 will be a "system enabler" (a sys 7.1 feature) for Mac IIx,
- IIcx, II and SE/30s? Unfortunately, I have no compelling reason to believe
- Apple is being so thoughtful.
-
- If Apple breaks their promise to integrate MODE32 into the system
- software for the many, many Mac II, IIcx, IIx and SE/30 owners out
- there who paid top dollar for their (once) high-end Macintosh models,
- then it may be time to start rallying forces again.
-
- This is part of the reason many of us wanted the ROM upgrade, not the
- software fix --- distrust of Apple. Afterall, they'd just love to sell us a
- new mac just to fix a minor firmware bug (made when they didn't even
- follow their own programming rules.)
-
- If Apple doesn't integrate MODE32 into 7.1 (or at least re-announce
- its intention to integrate it in yet another release), then it is
- time to start the letter writing campaign, folks. Again.
-
- Let's wait and see if they intend to do the right thing...
