  30. The Laser Prep 7.0 file is include on the System 7 Group Update CD and
  31. the "Printing" disk so that an AppleShare Print Server 2.0 may be upgraded
  32. to support the LaserWriter 7.0 driver. The AppleShare Print Server 2.0 has
  33. it's own LaserWriter driver built in and all it needs to print is a Laser
  34. Prep file. In fact, the AppleShare Print Server completely ignores any
  35. LaserWriter driver that may be installed into the System Folder of the
  36. server.

  38. Page 49 of the "System 7 Group Upgrade Guide" states the following
  39. procedure for upgrading an AppleShare Print Server 2.0 to support the
  40. System 7 LaserWriter drivers:

  42.      1. Shutdown the print server software.
  43.  
  44.      2. Install the printer driver update as described in the previous
  45. section.
  46.  
  47.      3. Drag the LaserPrep icon from the Printer Update folder to the
  48. Server 
  49.         Folder of the print server Macintosh.

  51.      4. Restart the print server Macintosh and the AppleShare Print Server 
  52.         software.

  54. In actuality, the "System 7 Group Upgrade Guide" adds an extra step,
  55. step number 2, that is unnecessary. Installing the printer driver update
  56. will have no effect on the AppleShare Print Server software.

  58. Note: AppleShare Print Server 3.0 uses the LaserWriter installed on the
  59. system it is running on.
