- As the Macintosh family has grown and newer versions of system software
- evolved, We have also experienced printing problems similar to yours. Here
- is a summary of what I have found in our area:
-
- 1. Newer machines use System 7 printer drivers, older ones still have the
- System 6 drivers. Both printing to the same Laser Printer, causes hangups
- requiring the printer to be re-initialized. System 6.0.8 comes with
- drivers from System 7, which also are compatible with earlier System
- 6.0.X's. Replacing drivers solves this problem.
-
- 2. One "mysterious" problem went away when the logic board was replaced in
- the old LaserWriter Plus. Even with the old logic board, some users
- experienced little trouble, while others had frequent hangups.
-
- 3. Before upgrading to System 7 on some of the machines, everyone used
- SuperLaserSpooler. It is not compatible with System 7, and only
- semi-compatible with System 7 printer drivers. Some System 6 users still
- insist on using it, even though it unpredictably causes problems similar to
- ones you described. These users refuse to use the supplied print monitor,
- as it would require them to use MultiFinder.
-
- I'm sure you, and others, can add to this list. However, these have been
- the most significant I've encountered.
