  13. I'd greatly appreciate advice on the following problem.

  15. I'm trying to set up a Classic II so that it runs the U.S. version of
  16. System 7.0.1 but can be used to do word processing in Icelandic and
  17. Swedish as well as English, with the three corresponding keyboard
  18. layouts available to choose from.
  19.  
  20. I have available the following system software
  21.      U.S. System 7.0.1 with Tuneup 1.1.1
  22.      Icelandic System 7.0.1 with Tuneup 1.1.1
  23.      Swedish System 7.0.1 with Tuneup 1.1.1
  24.      International System 7.0.1.1 with Tuneup 1.0.
  25.  
  26. Here is what I've attempted so far.

  28. First, I installed U.S. System 7.0.1 with Tuneup 1.1.1.
  29.  
  30. Then I used MountImage to open the font disk of the Icelandic System 7.0.1
  31. installation set.  I dropped all the Icelandic fonts onto the U.S. 7.0.1
  32. System folder and agreed to have them installed in the System, replacing
  33. the fonts of the same name already there.
  34.  
  35. Then I opened the System file on one of the Icelandic 7.0.1 installation
  36. disks, again using MountImage, and copied the Icelandic keyboard layout
  37. to the U.S. System folder and agreed to have it installed in the System.
  38.  
  39. Then I restarted the Classic II.
  40.  
  41. After I restarted, the Icelandic keyboard layout was present in the
  42. Keyboard control panel along with the English one.
  43.  
  44. But three of the fonts did not give the Icelandic characters --
  45.       Chicago 12pt, Geneva 9pt and Geneva 12pt.
  46.  
  47. In Word 5.0a, or in Key Caps from the Apple Menu, the characters eth
  48. and thot were displayed as empty squares.  Likewise for the accented
  49. capital letters U,I,O,A (but not E).
  50.  
  51. All the other fonts displayed eth, thot and the accented capitals correctly.
  52.  
  53. And if the Icelandic letters are used in file or folder names, the
  54. letters are displayed as empty squares, presumably because the System
  55. uses Geneva 9 and/or Geneva 12.
  56.  
  57. A further anomaly -- now, after a number of shutdowns and restarts, I
  58. still see both the Icelandic and English keyboard layouts in the
  59. Keyboard control panel, but when I open the System file I see only
  60. fonts and sounds, no keyboard layouts at all.  I'm sure I saw the
  61. Icelandic keyboard layout there soon after I installed it because I
  62. remember noticing that the accented 'I' in 'Islensk displayed as an
  63. empty square.

  65. I feel out of my depth and would very much appreciate advice on what I'm
  66. doing wrong or, alternatively, advice on a better way to get the
  67. Icelandic, Swedish and U.S. alphabet and keyboard layouts all available
  68. under System 7.0.1.
