  12. Both the Impact Pro and MacRecorder are incompatible with the IIfx in
  13. normal operation. For better speed and performace, they attempt
  14. to access the serial hardware directly, which is different in the IIfx.
  15. The solution is to use the 'Serial Switch' 1.1 or later control panel,
  16. which flips a bit in PRAM from 'faster' to 'compatible' serial mode.
  17. SoundEdit (MacRecorder s/w) will tell you this if you try to run it on
  18. an fx in faster (default) mode.
  19. Serial Switch 1.1 is on ftp.apple.com in one of the comm directories
  20. (because the unique serial hardware also causes problems with routers
  21. and maybe fast modems). Don't use v1.0; it'll crash in System 7.
