  11. The $799 Falcon, who cares! Atari has a long history of announcing vaporware
  12. and then either never releasing the product, releasing it in extremely
  13. small quantities (to be able to claim that they shipped it), or they ship
  14. it either severly crippled or at a much higher price.

  16. Their most recent blunders include the Atari TT (the crippled 68030 machine
  17. that barely outperforms a 16 Mhz 68000), the ST Book (the notebook that never
  18. was), and the "under $1000 68030 machine" Falcon. Notice that the $799 price
  19. is for a 1 meg machine with no hard disk. Gee, that's a throwback to the
  20. 1986 days of the 1040ST! If you want a useful computer with 4 meg, a hard disk
  21. and a nice monitor, well, Atari says you'll have to fork over much MORE than
  22. the $1000. You can't even use Atari's laser printer with 1 meg machines.

  24. So, once again Atari has shot themselves in the foot by releasing an overpriced
  25. piece of technology that's already obsolete because they took so long to
  26. release it.

  28. All this vapor and failing to ship a product gave me a nice idea for a program.
  29. In a few days I'll be release a shareware program called Gemulator. It's
  30. a 68000 emulator that runs on MS-DOS, and with the appropriate Atari ROM
  31. chips plugged into your PC, it emulates an Atari ST. Give me a few months to
  32. add 68030 emulation and you'll have yourself a Falcon emulator. Don't waste
  33. your money on the real thing and hell, why even lose sleep over it. Chances are
  34. slim that you'll see Falcons flooding dealer shelves any time soon.
