  26. Granted, I've never used Ventura Publisher for Windows (although I have
  27. used the older GEM version, which DOES need memory management hacks like
  28. LIM 4.0).  I have a little trouble believing this statement though.  Under
  29. windows, unless you specifically code otherwise, all applications see a
  30. flat 32 bit addressing space, i.e. they THINK they have the whole 4GB
  31. available if they want it.  What problems were you having with the "640k
  32. barrier".  It's worth pointing out, though, that Windows itself breaks the
  33. 640k barrier in the first place, so it doesn't make much sense to talk
  34. about it in relation to windows programs.

  45. Tell that to the millions of office assistants and others out there who
  46. use PC's every day to do productive work.  I can see logic in claiming
  47. that the Mac is more efficient/easier, but claiming that no one can even
  48. use a PC without internals knowlege?  Come on.

  67. Touche.  You did, however, argue that the cost was justified in order to
  68. get "good quality", something I and many others disputed.  Our point was
  69. that the $7000 you spent was essentially wasted on buying a 386-20.
  70. Anyone familiar with the PC world should have known this, IMHO.  I am
  71. writing this on a 486-33 I paid $2300 for a year ago and have had ZERO
  72. problems with.

  83.   Sorry Andy, although Windows does break the 640K barrier, unless you are
  84. an authorized (read paying) Microsoft developer, you do not ever see a flat
  85. mode 4GB memory model.  By using the 32-bit dynamic link library (as Word
  86. et al do) you can alter the (default) 16-bit model.  You do get access to
  87. all 4GB, but you get it when and where windows wants to put it and in 64K
  88. blocks......
