- Despite any rumors you may have heard to the contrary, IBM still does
- not lay people off. Any reductions in work force you have heard about
- have been done through offering people incentives to retire early,
- voluntarily. They fire people for non-performance, yes, but they don't
- lay people off.

- Furthermore, IBM never, ever *promised* to keep that policy going. In fact,
- on numerous occasions, they've specifically warned the opposite - that
- one day they may be forced into a layoff situation.
