  28. This is completely off the subject, but like Tim I feel compelled to

  30. a slander against one of the better companies to work for.

  32. Despite any rumors you may have heard to the contrary, IBM still does
  33. not lay people off. Any reductions in work force you have heard about
  34. have been done through offering people incentives to retire early, 
  35. voluntarily. They fire people for non-performance, yes, but they don't
  36. lay people off.

  38. Furthermore, IBM never, ever *promised* to keep that policy going. In fact,
  39. on numerous occasions, they've specifically warned the opposite - that
  40. one day they may be forced into a layoff situation.

  42. You may not like their hardware, or their software - that's your
  43. perogative.
  44. But they're still a darn good company to work for.
  45.  
  46. I know, my wife works for them.
