- In Pete's defense, I have to say that it's extremely dfifficult to
- prepare a major revision of a program (or a first release) which is
- perfect and bug-free. This is mainly due to the fact that authors of
- freeware and shareware programs have limited resources beyond the
- computer they're writing the software on, and usually do not have the
- luxury of a full SQA department to test the prerelease versions, and
- track and verify bug reports and beta sites.

- One the other hand, when one is preparing a major new release of a
- program, a solid alpha and beta test cycle, involving a nontrival
- number of users, is extremely important, and a little last-minute
- sanity checking goes a long way.
