- I'm beating my head on the desk about this hard disk problem. The drive in
- question is a LaCie 70MB External. It was hooked up to an SE running System
- 6.0.8 with no problems; I wanted to upgrade to System 7.0.1. No problem, says
- I; hook the external drive up to my IIcx; install 7.0.1 from HD floppies using
- the IIcx superdrive; hook back up to the SE.
-
- Well, somewhere in the hooking and the unhooking, one of the little metal
- things on the SCSI interface on the drive came loose, and the receiving jack
- would push in slightly when I tried to plug the cable back in. No problem,
- says I; open the case, rescrew the washer on until it's nice and snug, close
- the case, reboot, and...
-
- Absolutely nothing. The fan starts up, but the drive doesn't spin at all.
- When I open up the case again, the little red light on the drive is flashing
- slowly and steadily but no action is taking place at all. When I ran
- SilverLining, SL occasionally recognized a "SCSI device" but wouldn't tell me
- anything about it.
-
- Big problem, says I.
-
- Ok, net.scsi.wizards, what did I do? Will my drive need professional help?
- Will *I* need professional help?
-
- Any advice would be greatly appreciated; I'll try anything...

- One bright gleam in all this; I backed up 10 minutes before doing the
- installation, so at least I didn't lost any data...
