- I have an old Everex ext. HD (Miniscrib 20). The case is large,
- with a place for a tape drive (or another device). I want to
- put in another drive, and I'm wondering how to do the connections.
- The SCSI ports (2) are connected by a ribbon cable that originates
- on the bottom one, passes thru the top one, and then goes into the
- existing drive.
-
- There are two ID selector switches on the case. One goes to the
- existing drive, one is unattached.
-
- There are two sets of wires coming from the power supply: two 12V and
- two 5V. One 12 and one 5 go into the existing drive, the second 12V
- goes to the fan, and the second 5V goes to the power indicator LED.
-
- I assume the Miniscribe is externally terminated because I have this
- little plug thing (looks like a extender adapter. Has a male SCSI
- on one side and a female on the other side). Must be plugged into
- the second SCSI port for the Mac to startup from the drive.
-
- Questions:
- - can I just tap into the second set of power wires from the supply
- and plug these into the new drive?
- - What are the requirements on the new device for this plan to work?
- - How do I hook up the SCSI, with respect to the case and with
- respect to the existing drive?
- - can I mimic the ID current switch setup for the new drive? (or
- can I avoid the switch and use software selectable ID?)
-
- Thanks!
