- Let me tell you about my summer project. I have been finding and
- refurbishing Mac512s for a "computer-lab" at my child's school. This
- will be part of an "Experiment in Inovation", for the kindergarten/
- first grade level. I have gotton four machines running. I would like
- to get another four working.
-
- Since this is a "personally funded" project, I have been offering only
- $150 for a Mac512ke, and $100 for a Mac512 -- without software and
- without a 2nd drive. If anyone has a 512 they would like to see
- recycled and reused in this fashion, please contact me (ams@auspex.com).
-
- I was just at the school this morning, for the opening day, and it is quite
- rewarding seeing the bright-eyed 6-years playing with and getting
- excited with these 8-year old machines. They were playing with
- MacPaint, KidPix, KidsMath, KidsTime, ReaderRabbit, Frogger, Sargon,
- etc. (We have had a lot of software donated by myself and other
- parents). I believe that some of Steve Jobs' vision of the Macintosh
- being the computer for the "people", and computers can be used by
- anyone (even pre-readers), became a reality in that 1st grade classroom
- this morning.
-
- If you have a Mac512 gathering dust, consider giving it a second life.
- If not my project, I'm sure you can find many equally worthy projects
- across the country. The kids won't care that "its just a 68000", or
- its only a nine inch screen, or it has a pitifully small amount of
- ram. It will be happily in use from 9 to 3 everyday.
