- To add my wee bit 'o wisdom...
-
- The 1:1 interleave of the afor mentioned LaCie drive probably indicates
- caching being done inside the HD. Most HD I see connected to Pluses are
- 2:1 or rarely 3:1 interleaved.
-
- Only one brand of HD did not initially work with a PLUS. That drive would
- act as a System (startup) Drive for all Macs but not the Plus. The manufac-
- turer (need not be mentioned) stated, upon phoning, 'send it back for ?PROM?
- replacement.' It worked upon return! The problem was an incompatibility
- fully acknowledged by the manufacturer.
-
- I suspect that 'lots of errors' in using a HD might be driver related? The
- HD in my PowerBook indicated *total failure* at times when working with Silver-
- Lining but okay with Apples HDSC setup formatting... Soon after the PB internal
- hard drive died. So 'lots of errors' in this case might have been an early
- indication of hardware problems. (An intelligent person might have RUN to do
- a full backup - but not ME. I lost much of what was on the drive.)
