- Background:
- Home system: 4 Mb Ke, 128 roms (B/C), Dove SCSI.
- School Labs: 5 Mb IIcx.
-
- HDa: Seagate 277N (0) in a Tulane A-hive case, Jumpered to ID 6.
- HDb: Quantum 280, in the same case (time swapped). Jumpered to ID 5.
- FWB software's HDT primer v1 was used to format and partition
- both drives. (4:1 interleave on the Quantum)
-
-
- History:
- The Seagate was bought 'new' (fire sale, no warantee, but new),
- and has given yeoman service for 2.5 years, and is schlepped
- regularly from home to school and back. Unfortunatly it is
- fuller than full.
-
- The Q was a gift from a sympathetic colleague, and gave him some
- 2+ years of goodly service.
-
- The Q was formated, partitioned, and loaded (from the Seagate)
- on a freinds IIci, and was then used successfully on 2 other
- IIcx systems, and the Home system.
-
-
- Problem statement:
-
- After some much needed sleep, I woke up and attempted to use the home
- system. Mind you, I had been using it the night before, and it was still
- plugged up.
-
- Wouldnt boot cleanly, got various address/bus/no coprossesor errors while
- doing the init31 load or just prior to it. This is a repeatable, every
- time problem.
-
- Was only able to boot via floppy, at which point the drive works like it
- oughta. Thinking the system (6.0.7) had become corupted in some strange
- and wonderfull way, I switched to my alternative KanjiTalk 6.0.7, also on
- the same disk (and deblessed BTW). Same story, but with japanese dialogs
- :-).
-
- Ok, maybe its some timeing thing, says I, and out comes the US system 6.0.7
- installation disks. This time I put the system on the outermost partition
- (as it had been on the seagate). Same story.
-
- I am now using the same disk on a lab IIcx, with no problems.
-
- So - cant be the HDT SCSI driver, or the system, or the cableing, unless
- some aspect of that is different for plusses, AND that aspect got broken
- over night while I slept :-o
-
- I probably should take the home-machine cludge out back and shoot it, but I
- think my arrows need retipping for that, so I wont.
-
- Any Ideas would be much appreciated, email or post.
