- The startup chime a mac makes is a chord of several different notes played at
- the same time. The mac uses as an audible error message each of those
- individual notes played singly and in other combinations.

- There is a small utility program available from your local BBS called
- "diagnostic sound sampler" that will play all the different error tones the mac
- can produce and tell you what each of them mean.

- It could be as simple as a ram simm that needs to be re-seated to as bad as a
- serious motherboard problem. The utility will help you narrow it down.
