- This raises an interesting set of questions. This isn't the first time I have
- heard *Who needs that, I'm doing fine.* I think I first heard that when
- extolling the virtues of word processing vs typewriting.
-
- The larger question is psychological in nature. What is want vs. need. Things
- I never even knew existed 5 years ago are now so important I consider it
- unimaginable to be without them. Of course, if you want to take this *You don't
- NEED that* argument to its extreme, you end up with a pop song *All I need is
- the air that I breathe and to love you...*
-
- To make this philosphical rambling pertinent to System 7. It takes time to
- plumb the depths of any new technology. Publish and Subscribe, the modular
- nature of upgrades, peer-peer filesharing, etc. have yet to become *necessities*
- for many people, but it's early. Sure, you can get by on earlier systems, but
- you can't push the limits and explore what COULD be if you aren't willing to
- change. Pardon the preachy tone, but if you don't like System 7, work with it
- for a while, who knows one day you may go back to a machine running 6.0.x and
- wonder how you ever managed :).
