  12. I second Brendan Mahony's comments: if portability and a fast CPU aren't
  13. the highest priority, the original Mac Portable has much to recommend it.
  14. It has the same active-matrix LCD as the $3500 PowerBook 170.  If display
  15. quality is important to you, the Mac Portable is worth considering for 
  16. this factor alone.  It has plenty of power for routine word processing, 
  17. spreadsheets, small databases, and telecom use.  It's a beautiful
  18. computer at the current used price of about $1000.  -LJ
