  18. No it isn't, you hopeless dweebs.  There are a lot of things that are much
  19. easier to do in a good mainframe editor, like vi and especially emacs, than
  20. in a standard Mac 'word processor'.

  22. To answer the question, the only Mac version of vi that I've heard of is
  23. called 'stevie' (originally written for the Atari ST).  Unfortunately, it
  24. doesn't support vi keyboard macros, which makes it pointless, as far as I'm
  25. concerned.  I think that regular expression search and replace was functional,
  26. however, but it's been a while since I've tried it.

  28. If you're just looking for a good editor that you can use directly on text
  29. files, I would strongly suggest you look at the excellent shareware editor,
  30. Alpha (now in version 5.0).  It is quite powerful, extensible, and flexible.
  31. You can redefine the key bindings, for instance, and write much more 
  32. interesting macros than in vi.
