- - OS/2 V2.0 has three possible configurations with repect to booting the system.
- -
- - 3. Boot manager - you can have multiple OSes sharing the same disk (or disks).
- - UNIX(s), OS/2(s), DOS(s)....please yourself. I think the limit is 5 different
- - systems. They can't see each other's partitions - especially UNIX's which are
-
- This is the option that I use; it's extremely helpful. This statement isn't
- exactly accurate, though -- OS/2 *CAN* see and use DOS partitions, with no
- problem, as long as OS/2 is installed on a logical drive in an extended
- DOS partition, rather than on its own primary partition. This installation
- *does* allow the OS/2 partition to be formatted as HPFS. If it is, the
- DOS partition can't see it. The DOS sessions under OS/2 see it perfectly,
- of course.
-
- Sorry if this explanation seems complicated. Upshot is:
- Yes, OS/2 and DOS can coexist, with a boot-time selector.
- YES, if you do it right, OS/2 will see the DOS partition.
- YES, if OS/2 is on a FAT partition, DOS will see it; if
- OS/2 is on an HPFS partition, DOS won't.
-
- I haven't seen the need to put UNIX in the picture on my own box.
