- Please excuse me if this letter sounds a bit fragmented. I'm a bit
- dazed, but I thought I better get this out before I go to bed.
-
- I just recently bought a used Sound Blaster, and I've been having some
- problems with it.
-
- Some of the problems are:
-
- When I use Mod Play Pro and play a MOD, the screen freeses up when it's
- using text. When it's using a .GIF (I found this out when I played a long
- MOD.). the GIF is drawn on the screen pixel by pixel, from left to right,
- very slowly. The sound is never effected, and I can still do the things with
- the keyboard when the MOD is being played (ie: Skip, change speed, stop,
- etc.).
-
- I can't use Recorder. When I try to record, it crashes, and when I try
- and play a .VOC from disk, it crashes. Bad sign there right away.
-
- When I try and play Castle Wolfenstien 3-D, the digitized sound effects
- sound like they're chopped up, fuzzy, or distant (When I'm right up close to
- the character.). The game also crashes about 40 seconds into gameplay. Yay.
-
-
- I phoned up the person I bought it from and he said to try all the base
- addresses with all the IRQ's. I did, and still nothing althought some
- seemed better than others.
-
- Here's my config.sys:
-
- DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS RAM
- DEVICE=C:\QEMM\LOADHI.SYS /R:2 C:\STACKER.COM C:\STACVOL.000
- DEVICE=c:\qemm\loadhi.sys /r:2 c:\dos\nnansi.sys
- DEVICE=c:\qemm\loadhi.sys /r:1 c:\mouse\mouse.sys
- files=25
- BUFFERS=20
-
- I've been told to take out Stacker and try it, but there was no
- difference. (I did all the base address and IRQ shuffling with Stacker off)
- When I took out QEMM, ModPlay worked, but nothing else did. When I used
- EMM386.SYS, it was no different than using QEMM.
-
- Here's my autoexec.bat:
-
- @echo off
- swapping off
- c:\qemm\loadhi /r:1 c:\dos\vfont.com /d
- prompt $e[1;32m$p$e[31m>$e[0m
- set colordir=zip:bright cyan;exe com bat btm:bright white;doc txt prn me nfo:bri
- set comspec=c:\command.com
- set TMCFG=d:\TM\TM.CFG
- SET TEMP=C:\DOS
- set waffle=c:\waffle\system\static
- set sound=c:\sb
- c:\qemm\loadhi /r:2 /res=14064 /sqf c:\mouse\click.exe
- path=c:\util;c:\bat;c:\stacker;c:\dos;d:\dos2;c:\virus
- alias /r alias.lst
- cls
- swapping on
-
- I don't think anything in there means much to this problem, but I
- thought I would toss it in anyways just in case.
-
- My system consists of:
-
- 386-DX33
- 2 megs ram
- Dexxa rodent in COM1
- Internal El-Cheapo 2400b modem in COM4
- 4Dos 4.01
- IDE 52meg HD
- And other numerous nifty things that I've forgotten, but probly arn't
- inportant.
-
- I would also like to know if there is a way to find out what version
- this Sound Blaster is. 1.0 bad? (I heard somewhere it is.) If so, is there
- an upgrade?
-
- Thank you for taking the time to read to the bottom of this message. If
- you have any help to offer, please contact me via Email at the sites listed
- below. This is beginning to piss me off, and I'd like to get it as soon as
- possible. Thanks.
