  11. As I want to expand my system with a SCSI-Drive, I am currently looking for
  12. a suitable SCSI controller. The Adaptec seems to be the right one, but
  13. serveral dealers told me that it wouldn't work together with my (old)
  14. ST506/MFM-Harddisc controller.
  15. A test with my friend's Adaptec adapter failed. When configured properly (?)
  16. (but with no HD connected to), my *ST506* drive begins to make noise (the
  17. head of the drive seems to move between the cylinders continuously) and the
  18. access time increases dramaticaly.
  19. My questions are: Is it a configuration problem, a compatibility problem or
  20. just caused by the fact that no SCSI drive was connected to the controller?
  21. Which other well supported SCSI controllers exist that don't have such
  22. problems (what about Future Domain?) ?
