- Hi!
-
- I have a little question about Chips & Technologies 82c451 Super VGA
- card. The accompagnying booklet says that the only SVGA mode usable
- with this card is 800x600x16. Now, Richard F. Ferrero claims that the
- 451 card can also do 640x400x256, in his EGA/VGA programmer's guide.
-
- This 640x400x256 mode is supposed to be BIOS mode 78h, but setting
- this mode via int 10h doesn't even clear the text mode screen,
- using my version of the 451.
-
- Some image viewing utilities also claim that my card supports 640x400x256,
- but when I press the key to view the image, the text screen persists,
- and I can only see the color palette being changed.
-
- I also looked up the VGADOC archive by some person I don't remember
- the name of. It too mentioned the 640x400x256 mode, but added that
- on the 451 it was 'not documented/not on all cards'.
-
- My C&T 451 card version is 2.0.1, as it says on bootup.
-
- I was hoping that someone could shed some more light on this.
- And, if anyone out there in netland has a 451 that *do* support
- mode 78h (640x400x256) I would like to hear from you.
-
- I would like you to use my TWEAK utility to get the register configuration
- used to put your card in this mode. If those register values work for me,
- I'm going to make a TSR that makes the BIOS support mode 78h.
-
- Please respond via e-mail!
