- I just returned my second TelePath modem (they were dated 7/29/92 & 8/4/92)
- and have asked for my money back. Both modems acted identically, they would
- not connect reliably at high speeds. Sometimes they would connect, but
- the AT%Q command reported signal quality was very low. They worked fine
- at 2400 baud, and the FAX worked at 9600 baud.
-
- They would never connect to the local BBS that I call most often, so they
- were useless to me.
-
- Gateway tech support was very helpful and seemed pretty knowledgeable
- compared to most tech support I have dealt with, but they did not have
- any suggestions that worked.
-
- Gateway insists that these modems work well for almost everyone, but I
- think they have trouble with the phone lines in some areas (many other
- modems using the Rockwell chipsets also seem to have these problems).
- I did try the modem at work as well as at home (with a different phone
- system) and it did not correct the problems. A borrowed USR HST worked
- fine in both places.
