- IMHO I beleive that Apogee,ID software wants us to have the orginal
- version of Wolfenstein for free. Instead of spending big bucks on
- marketing Apogee produces a version of their game and sends it out
- on the ftp sites, people play the game, pass it on to others and so
- on. Then when people finish the game they to themselves "gee,
- wouldn't it be nice to have the other versions." Then the people
- send in their $50 bucks and Apogee has themselves a profit. The only
- expense in Apogees marketing techinique is producing the first
- version. From there they let the game players distribute it doing
- all the work. I believe apogee is perfectly happy that people are
- passing around the original version. However, this marketing
- technique does not include passing around the latter copies which
- explicitly state "DO NOT DISTRIBUTE" Passing this around is
- illegal.
