- I'm also a pretty avid fan of video sports games. I keep looking for a really
- good football game that mixes playability, strategy, statistics, and decent
- graphics. Unfortunately, I haven't really found one (yet!). I think one of
- the most playable football games had to be Gridiron on the Amiga (oops, I
- think that's twice today that I've seen the dreaded "A" word in this group!).
- It had a great user interface (mouse-driven) and took into account real-world
- things like momentum. The graphics were very lame (white and black circles),
- but to be honest, I didn't really mind. They put out "official" NFL disks
- as well as some college disks. I read recently (forgot where) that Bethesda
- was planning a Gridiron II. Has anyone else heard anything about this? The
- next "most playable" football game I've played is probably John Madden FB '92
- on the Genesis. From the reviews I've seen here, it appears that JM II on the
- PC doesn't even come close. If only they could have provided the Genesis
- version + season play + injuries/substitutions/stats, I think I would have
- had my "ultimate" football game :-)
-
- I purchased Mike Ditka "ultimate" football and I can't believe I actually kept
- it. It was one of my first PC games and I guess I figured that was about the
- best I could expect on a PC. After purchasing Links386, however, I tend to
- think someone could write a pretty killer football simulation.
-
- A couple of others to add to your list (courtesy of Ross Erickson's message):
- XOR's NFL Challenge 3.0 and EOA's Michael Jordan In-Flight. Anyone heard
- anything about possible release dates for either of these?
-
- On a semi-related note, what's the consensus view on Hardball III? I seem to
- remember some pretty scathing reviews here on the net, but both the GameBytes
- reviews seem to be pretty positive.
