- I have been playing Starflight II and have gotten pretty far into the game.
- Recently, Starflight II stopped loading correctly on my system. I would get to
- the screen "Loading the game in progress..." and it would just stop there.
- Before, the games had been loading in about three seconds after this screen
- came up, but I let it sit for about thirty seconds and nothing.
-
- I did the usual "eliminate everything from your CONFIG.SYS until it works" to
- see what might be causing it, and I noticed that it would work after I removed
- SMARTDRV.SYS (Microsoft's disk cache program).
-
- This caused me much confusion, because I had been playing just fine with
- SMARTDRV.SYS installed, then it just quit working, and besides, why would a
- disk cache cause a game to stop working? I did notice that I could start a new
- game, save it, and restore it, but then again my current game worked at first,
- too.
-
- Has anyone else had this problem? I really hate playing without a disk cache,
- because it makes things so much slower. Can anyone share their experience on
- this with me?
