- My understanding is that the S3 does not have any compatability with
- the VGA and lower graphics modes. There are two types of S3 cards available,
- the ones that use the feature connector on a standard vga card to use the
- existing vga card to provide VGA graphics. The other type of card puts
- another chipset to provide the VGA graphics on the card along with the
- S3 chipset to provide the higher resolution modes. To keep the cost down
- most card manufacturers choose some cheap chipset for the VGA mode which
- will give poor performance.
