I really don't think that a 48 card would really be practical or cost-effective to
manufacture. The pen routines would need SEVERE modifications in order to identify
mathematical symbols. EX: How do you tell an integral from the letter 'S' ; how to you
tell a derivative from a small 'd'.
The pen based routines were (according to what I've heard) designed to deal with
English letters, numbers, and symbols and also certain types of graphics. They are designed to work with anyone, although they are also trainable.
What seems like a much better idea to me would be an HP calculator in the shape of
Newton with a large touch screen, etc. Buttons could just be displayed as images on
the screen. This would allow displaying large graphs and graphics, multiple line menus, etc. And the machine wouldn't have to spend its time trying to figure out
what you were writing, because you could still use the simulated buttons.
Any comments on this idea (even flames) will be appreciated
