- BOT is the beginning of tape mark. It is on one side of the tape and
- the EOT mark is on the other side.

- I assume that this is occurring for many tapes? Otherwise it could
- be just bad tapes. I've had this occur for bad tapes. I either threw
- them away, or put new reflective BOTs on them.

- Disclaimer: I'm not a hardware type, but why wouldn't a self test
- indicate a failure with the sensor?
