  16. BOT is the beginning of tape mark.  It is on one side of the tape and
  17. the EOT mark is on the other side.

  19. I assume that this is occurring for many tapes?  Otherwise it could
  20. be just bad tapes.  I've had this occur for bad tapes.  I either threw
  21. them away, or put new reflective BOTs on them.

  23. Disclaimer: I'm not a hardware type, but why wouldn't a self test
  24. indicate a failure with the sensor?
