- I have a 7978B tape drive that is not on maintenance. Three days ago,
- it started missing the BOT mark during the rewind. Yesterday, it was
- rarely able to find the BOT during the load, and today, what's a BOT?
-
- There is no obstruction in the sensor assembly, and the drive
- self-tests all come back with no errors. I suspect the infrared
- transmit/receive pair is going out on me. However, the part is $135,
- and before I buy it, put it in, and discover that that isn't the
- problem, I was hoping to hear of any other experiences with such a
- problem and related solutions.
-
- Please note that I am NOT trying to get free HP hardware consultation!
- This is an extraordinary circumstance; my 730 IS on contract, but I'm
- phasing out an old HP3000. I would prefer not to call in somebody on
- "Time & Materials", but, if I have to ...
-
- I would appreciate any kind words.
-
- Prethanks!
