- May thanks to all those who sent messages about how to use long lines in
- HP fortran. The answer, ans nearly everyone pointed out, IS in the man pages
- under man f77, where it clearly states that "+es" enables longer lines.

- I, as a neophyte sys manager and UNIX non-expert decided it would be
- better/easier to read the HP FORTRAN/9000 Reference book which came with our
- new machine. I looked through chapter 3, which describes the compiler and
- its options, but couldn't (and still can't) find a clear statemant that
- "+es" enables long lines.

- Is it reasonable to draw the conclusion that man pages are often more detailed
- and perhaps more up-to-date than the reference books which come with the
- software? The book was printed in 6/91, so it is the latest version.
