- From an active defect report against the Xserver:
-
- -----
-
- Description:
- no-windows login results in black screen with large "X", login obscured
-
- Submitter:
- After starting up vue with "init 3; exit" I chose to login
- with no windows. The screen then blanked showing only a
- frozen X graphics cursor. I had to press "SHIFT-RESET"
- in order for the graphics to exit and display the alpha
- screen. This same behavior was experienced on both the
- cluster server, a S750, and a client, a S735. This seems
- to be new behavior after an IC2 update last week.
-
- Labnotes:
- ..... I have discovered that the X server is not performing the
- required ioctl(GCTERM) system call.
-
- Labnotes2:
- I have verfied that GCTERM ioctl is resetting the correct set of planes.
- It appears that the X server is not making the GCTERM ioctl call.
-
- -----
-
- I just asked our quality dept. to keep this defect rated as "critical"
- rather than downgrading it just because it has the SHIFT-RESET workaround.
- In a few more day, the defect will be advertised to field support also.
