  22. Digital News and Digital Review did not merge.  Digital Review's parent
  23. company and Digital News' parent company both knew that there was only room
  24. for one publication in this market.  It was only a matter of time before
  25. one or the other went bankrupt.  Given this knowledge, Digital Review's
  26. parent company offered Digital News' parent company a large sum of money to
  27. stop publishing Digital News.  In return, Digital Review received the
  28. rights to the Digital News name, some other information-based assets, and
  29. the subscriber list.

  31. Neither of the two staffs knew anything about what was going on until it
  32. was announced; as wholly owned subsidiaries of publishing giants, their
  33. opinions weren't much in demand.

  35. Digital Review's parent company did not buy the staff or expertise of
  36. Digital News.  I believe that both staffs are reasonably unhappy with the
  37. situation: the Digital News staff because they're now scrambling for jobs
  38. or are unemployed; the Digital Review staff because they aren't being given
  39. additional resources, despite their new responsibility to cover Digital
  40. News' niches as well.

  42. In any case, best way to think of this is that Digital Review has changed
  43. its name, and Digital News is now out of business.  (and that I'm looking
  44. for a job...)
