  15. Here is a comparison of the four most used Archiving utilities on the
  16. Atari ST (And indeed - most 16 & 32 bit machines)
  17.  
  18. It was performed on an Atari 520STFM with 1meg of RAM.  Using a 300k
  19. FAST-RAMdisk for all file operations.  Write verify was turned off.
  20. No TSR's or ACCessories were loaded.

  22. Results may differ very slightly on some machines.  (Speed will
  23. obviously increase when being used on accelerated machines)

  25. Comparisons of, ZOO, ZIP, ARC and LHarc are described below.  This is 
  26. using versions, that to my knowledge are the latest versions available 
  27. to the general public.  It is not definitive, but it gives a good idea 
  28. of which techniques are best to use when you want quick & effective 
  29. compression - (or slow and in-effective).   The results are quite 
  30. surprising with the popular LHarc coming after both ARC and ZIP in 
  31. the overall ratings, and being beaten by the default compression 
  32. mode of ZOO!!

  35. similar in rating.
