- Since the Falcon030 has attracted interest in the Audio field, I would advice
- any programmer planning on releasing Falcon030 Audio Software to read the "Dr.
- Dobb's Journal" July 1992 issue where John W. Ratcliff proposes a compression
- algorithm called "ACOMP" that yields better than 6:1 compression on human
- voice, and between 1.5:1 to 3:1 on music, while maintaining almost full
- fidelity. With the implementation of the DSP, this algorithm can be enchanced
- in order to speed-up the process, which is a very processor intensive one.
-
- The algorithm incorporates two techniques, which are silence encoding and
- delta modulation. The entire algorithm source code in Assembly is included
- (for the Intel processors). This can be used not only for the Falcon030 but
- also the other line of Atari computers such as the (M)ST(E), and the TT.
-
- Sincerely,
