- I almost missed an excellent addition to my ST due to a lot of flames. That
- addition is Font GDOS. I had ignored it's existance because of numerous
- messages in this newgroup that said how terrible it is.
-
- Last night I downloaded it from GEnie (on a lark) and found that it works GREAT
- with ALL of my GDOS compatible programs. I can't vouch for all of the printer
- drivers, but the laserjet driver even worked with my old versions of GDOS.
- It's the first one that does work with all of my programs without quirks.
-
- There is a help file on GEnie that provides helpful hints. It's not real long
- and I suggest you read it. It notes that there was (evidently) another version
- uploaded at one time. This (current) one is about 450K and includes quite a few
- printer drivers, FontGDOS, configuration modules (Xcontrol and accesory
- versions) and documentation.
-
- Now before we hear from those for whom it did not work, here's a setup that
- does work:
- 4 meg 1040 STe
- TOS 2.06
- HP Laserjet II (2.5 meg)
- Mega44 hard drive.
- Golden Image scanner
- Navarone clock.
- Warp9
- Xcontrol.acc
- AHDI5.0
- And the programs that worked with it:
- Touch-up
- Timeworks Desktop Publisher
- STraight-FAX
- EZ-Draw
- Degas-Elite
-
- I am using the standard Timeworks DTP bitmapped fonts, and they work fine.
-
-
- Thank you, Atari, for releasing it as freeware. It makes my whole system much
- more usable. Now how about a quick note concerning the policy that it ONLY
- be available from GEnie? (I can think of several good reasons, but I would
- like Atari's)
