  13. I almost missed an excellent addition to my ST due to a lot of flames.  That
  14. addition is Font GDOS.  I had ignored it's existance because of numerous 
  15. messages in this newgroup that said how terrible it is.

  17. Last night I downloaded it from GEnie (on a lark) and found that it works GREAT
  18. with ALL of my GDOS compatible programs.  I can't vouch for all of the printer
  19. drivers, but the laserjet driver even worked with my old versions of GDOS.
  20. It's the first one that does work with all of my programs without quirks.

  22. There is a help file on GEnie that provides helpful hints.  It's not real long
  23. and I suggest you read it.  It notes that there was (evidently) another version
  24. uploaded at one time.  This (current) one is about 450K and includes quite a few
  25. printer drivers, FontGDOS, configuration modules (Xcontrol and accesory 
  26. versions) and documentation.

  28. Now before we hear from those for whom it did not work, here's a setup that
  29. does work:
  30.     4 meg 1040 STe
  31.     TOS 2.06
  32.     HP Laserjet II (2.5 meg)
  33.     Mega44 hard drive.
  34.     Golden Image scanner
  35.     Navarone clock.
  36.     Warp9
  37.     Xcontrol.acc
  38.     AHDI5.0
  39. And the programs that worked with it:
  40.     Touch-up
  41.     Timeworks Desktop Publisher
  42.     STraight-FAX
  43.     EZ-Draw
  44.     Degas-Elite
  45.  
  46. I am using the standard Timeworks DTP bitmapped fonts, and they work fine.

  49. Thank you, Atari, for releasing it as freeware. It makes my whole system much
  50. more usable.  Now how about a quick note concerning the policy that it ONLY
  51. be available from GEnie? (I can think of several good reasons, but I would
  52. like Atari's)
