- A few reasons why some current devices cost several thousands:
- a) They contain the software to control the sampling, playback etc and
- to allow sample editing... The Falcon does not.
- b) Such devices contain High Quality ADCs and DACs. Do you know what
- the quality of the Falcon's converters are? As a musician, I thought
- you might realise that just because a spec sheet says 50kHz 16bit or
- whatever, this does NOT necessarily mean CD quality; look how much the
- sound of CD players has improved since their introduction, still with
- the same digital data. (Anyway my not-very-expensive CD is
- 18bit 176kHz on output anyway, by oversampling). The 56K chip is
- going to have its work cut out if it is performing oversampling,
- digital effects and EQ, real-time editing etc as available on
- the expensive equipment.
-
- I do expect the Falcon to become the basis of some reasonably priced recording
- systems, but I do not think that, without extra hardware, I do not think that
- it will compete with the $15000 Pro systems you mention.
