  12. I was informed by some forwarded mail and a mail of jhenders (my reply
  13. bounced just at the last site on the way to you, please check that,
  14. your host is lacking an MX record for you), that there suddenly is
  15. trouble about a version of nn for ST, and now, after all I read,
  16. I guess, its my version.

  18. I'm very sorry, that it causes so much trouble. Over a year ago I posted an
  19. installation guide to the german part of the net demanding every archive
  20. admin to incorporate it into their copy of nn, but it has been naive to
  21. think that would help.

  23. I will post it again after this article. It will not solve all problems, as
  24. the configuration, nn was aimed at, is very special (Gemini, Mercury UUCP or
  25. Digital Island UUCP), but there was nothing else (as far as UUCP systems for
  26. ST computers are concerned) available at the time NN was ported. I have no
  27. experience with Hermes, although the mmail.ttp incorporated in the nn
  28. distribution is a very ancient predecessor of mmail coming along with
  29. hermes. It is true that the shell used has to support the following features:

  31. _shell_p hook
  32. ARGV argument passing
  33. strings can be quoted without any processing by ''
  34.  
  35. I heared there are older versions of gulam still alive which do not
  36. know about _shell_p or ARGV.

  38. Read the installation guide with special care for environment variables.
  39. nn uses a lot of environment variables standard in Unix, but not normally
  40. defined on an ST (HOME, LOGNAME, USER). I hope its all in the docs.
